Following comments made by Chris Loder MP during a debate on the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill in the House of Commons, Shechita UK has issued the following statement:

“It is regrettable that Chris Loder has joined the thankfully small list of MPs who have chosen to publicly criticise Shechita. The shackle and hoist method of animal restraint Mr Loder described in his speech has been banned in the UK for decades and his use of emotive language and bizarre use of statistics show him to be, at best, hugely misinformed on the subject. That Mr Loder used such controversial language when describing shechita whilst implying that mechanical stunning is some sort of medicinal process resulting in a warm woozy anaesthesia is simply childish and false.”
