Following Lancashire County Council’s decision to limit the supply of non-mechanically stunned meat, Shimon Cohen the Campaign Director of Shechita UK has made the following comment:

“The decision by Lancashire County Council is disappointing and to pretend that it’s about animal welfare is disingenuous. Mechanical stunning methods which may include asphyxiation by gas, electrocution by tongs or water or shooting with a captive bolt gun, cause pain to the animal, are aggressive and are by no means the woozy medicinal anaesthetic process that its proponents would have us believe. Mean spirited legislation has no place in modern Britain.”
